The Challenge
As is true with any large nonprofit organization, Teach For America’s network of 50+ regions across the country faced challenges with siloed work, misaligned teams, and crossed messages. It’s one thing to write a new strategic plan or launch a new initiative. It’s another to bring it to thousands of staff and community members with intention and inspiration. That’s where Matterlab came in.
The Approach
Matterlab approaches every engagement considering the community context (geographic, political, and more), crafting strategies and content that will resonate. We worked closely with community advisors, whether through the Teach For America team or our own connections, to develop communications that would ultimately result in action.
The Results
- National highlight: Matterlab created the brand identity and foundational materials for Teach For America’s Virtual Summer Teacher Training. The partnership resulted in a cohesive voice and visual system across all audiences and touchpoints — from staff and corps members, to districts and partners — building trust in and understanding of a new, virtual training program during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic. The campaign resulted in easier and faster adoption of the new training model.
- Regional highlight: Matterlab created the communications strategy, brand identity, and marketing collateral for Teach For America Dallas-Fort Worth’s 10th anniversary campaign and event. The year-long campaign culminated in a 300-person gala that exceeded fundraising and attendance goals, raising $1.3M for the nonprofit, and solidifying the region as a pacesetter amongst all 50+ Teach For America regions.
